Concept
Ātman
A Sanskrit word for the self as distinct from the personality: in some texts the inner witness, and in Advaita Vedānta the self understood as Brahman.

In Advaita Vedānta, ātman and Brahman name one reality, while a human life still has a body and a history. Anatomy does not use the word for an organ. The Law of One uses density for a stage of consciousness. Later writers sometimes set the two vocabularies side by side. They come from different texts and name different claims.
