The Bent Pyramid
Sneferu’s pyramid at Dahshur, about 2600 BCE. Its faces rise at about 54° for the lower part and about 43° above, hence the name.

Egyptologists read the change as a correction during construction, after cracking in the lower structure; the same king then built the Red Pyramid at the gentler angle from the start. In sekeds the two faces are 5 and 7½ palms. Grant reads the lower face as one sixth of a hexagon and the upper as one fifth of a pentagon and calls the bend deliberate. A sixth of a hexagon is an equilateral triangle, whose faces would rise at 60°; the measured face is 54°. The reading and the measurement should be compared before the reading is adopted.
