Berossus and the 432,000 years

A Babylonian priest who wrote a history of his country in Greek around 290 BCE. His ten kings before the Flood reign for 120 sars, 432,000 years in total.

The Babyloniaca survives only in quotations by later writers. The reign lengths are all multiples of the sar, 3,600 years: 36,000; 10,800; 46,800; 43,200; 64,800, and so on. Grant notes that every one of them has a digital root of 9. Sitchin read the sar as the orbit of a twelfth planet. The ground reading is simpler: a base-60 culture counting mythic time in round base-60 units. The number 432,000 recurs in the Hindu Kali Yuga, which is why it travels so well in later readings.
