Ether, revived

Philomath argues that the ether rejected after 1887 has returned as zero-point energy and dark energy, and that gravity is the pressure of that field on matter.

The Michelson-Morley experiment of 1887 found no motion through an ether, and relativity made that mechanical medium unnecessary. Einstein’s 1920 Leiden lecture reused the word for the physical properties of spacetime, and said this was not the old luminiferous stuff. Grant and Ghannam cite Tesla’s and J. J. Thomson’s ether models and John Brandenburg’s 2011 book, and propose that the Poynting vector of the vacuum field pushes objects together. They also suggest sound, or its particle, may be the carrier of gravity. Nothing in the book is measured or predicted. On this site the idea sits beside Bashar’s copper-sphere test and Ra’s prana vacuum as a third cousin of the axiom that location is a frequency, and like them it has no result yet.
