The diary of Merer
A papyrus logbook found at Wadi al-Jarf on the Red Sea in 2013. An inspector named Merer records hauling limestone from Tura to “Akhet-Khufu”, the Horizon of Khufu, in the king’s last years.

Pierre Tallet’s team found the papyri in storage galleries at an Old Kingdom harbour. They are the oldest inscribed papyri known. The diary names the pyramid, the king, the overseer Ankhhaf, and the boat crews, month by month. It was written by someone doing the work, not by a later chronicler, and it was buried a long way from Giza. It is the ground answer to the forgery claim about the 1837 marks, and it is independent of them.
