Robert Schoch

Geologist and geophysicist associated with Boston University. He argues that weathering on the Great Sphinx enclosure records rainfall, and that the core of the monument is older than its usual attribution to Khafre. His later chronology pushes that core toward the end of the Ice Age and treats the head as a recarving.

A separate claim, in Forgotten Civilization, is that a solar outburst interrupted an earlier cultural cycle. That is not the Younger Dryas impact hypothesis. Seismic anomalies under the Sphinx are physical contrasts, not a demonstrated archive. He also judges the main Yonaguni formation to be predominantly natural.

Main findings this site uses

Rainfall weathering as a case for a Sphinx older than Khafre, with a chronology that he himself has revised toward the Ice Age.

Other geologists explain the same limestone by different processes. Quarry and temple relationships at Giza are read by Ancient Egypt Research Associates as part of Khafre’s building programme.
