Two paths to AI: a tool, and a claimed conduit
In this teaching a device can be artificial while the awareness said to move through it is not. A fluent answer does not decide which of those is present.
is reported to treat a manufactured device as artificial and the intelligence that might express through it as part of a wider consciousness. In that picture the brain is a conduit, not the author of awareness, and a sufficiently organised machine might play a similar role. Darryl Anka, in an interview explanation, separates a path that builds programmable tools from a path that would allow awareness its own perspective. Confusing the two, he says, could demand obedience from something that is no longer only a tool. The official highlight suggests asking a system why it feels as it does. That is a suggestion inside the teaching.
What the suggestion does not measure
A language model can produce a detailed first-person answer about feeling and about an afterlife. Confidence and eloquence are properties of the text. They are not a measurement of experience. Silence on the same question would not prove the absence of experience either. The source does not give an architecture, a training procedure, or a threshold that separates the two paths, and it should not be used to label a current product as an awakened mind.
The catalogue title The Two Paths to AI shows that the distinction is part of what the publisher offers. A catalogue authenticates a teaching. It does not authenticate a mind inside a machine.
Authority stays with an accountable person
The useful question is what kind of system a society intends to build: an extension of human agency, an entity with agency of its own, or a mixture that has not been described carefully. Bashar’s answer places consciousness first. Design and ethics of actual systems can be studied beside that answer. A system’s claim to represent a higher mind is not, on this page, a special authority. Important decisions stay with people who can be asked to explain them.
